With a new storm on track to arrive Tuesday night and a 90% chance of rain on Wednesday, the Wilderness hike for Wednesday, Dec. 4, is CANCELLED. That’s the bad news.

The good news is that Sherry has volunteered to lead a Special Wilderness Hike tomorrow — Tuesday, Dec. 3 — that will end prior to the arrival of the new storm, as described below:

MORENA PCT AND RESERVOIR
Meet time: 8:40AM at Buckman Springs Rest Area
Hike starts at 9:00AM

Mission Valley carpool, if there is one, departs at 7:40AM

Today’s hike is about 9 miles. Beginning at the PCT trailhead just outside of the Lake Morena County Park, we will hike 3 miles to the Morena Butte Trailhead. After a short break, we will walk back about a quarter of a mile and take the Morena Reservoir trail north. From there we will connect to a road and continue to the dam area. Heading back on a road for about 0.6 mile, we will walk for about a mile to the PCT to hike back to the parking lot. The forecast for Lake Morena on Tuesday is cloudy with a high of 63. Pack snack, lunch and water, and bring rain gear just in case. Call Sherry at 619-887-0055 or e-mail her at sherry.rokarty@gmail.com with questions.

Directions: We will meet at 8:40AM in the Buckman Springs Rest Area and caravan/carpool to the trailhead from there. Take I-8 east to Buckman Springs Road [exit 51]. At the stop sign after exiting, turn left then an immediate right into the rest area. Toilets and water are available at the rest area.
