WEDNESDAY WILDERNESS HIKE: JANUARY 8, 2020
“RUN FOR (FROM) THE BORDER”
(PCT from Campo to Hauser Canyon)
***RSVP*** IF YOU ARE GOING; THIS IS A CAR SHUTTLE INVOLVED HIKE
Mission Valley carpool; if there is one, departs at 7:00 AM
Here is your chance to take the first step, OK 12 miles, of the 2,650 mile PCT. This 13 mile hike will start where the PCT crosses Hwy 94 in Campo and proceeds for the first 12 miles on the PCT ending in Hauser Canyon. The last mile is on a dirt road taking us back to half of our parked cars. This hike is mostly on a gentle to moderate, but consistent, incline or decline with total vertical gain of about 2,100 feet.
We will all meet up at the Buckman Springs Rest Area at Exit 51, the Buckman Springs Road off ramp from I-8. Be prepared to leave the Rest Area at 8 AM to shuttle the cars between the finish in Hauser Canyon and the start at Campo.
Pack snack, lunch, and water. Forecast is mostly sunny with highs in the mid 50’s and lows in the mid 30’s. Please be prepared to either shuttle other hikers in your car or to be shuttled on this hike. The road in and out of Hauser Canyon is a somewhat bumpy dirt road.
