ABDSP/Cuyamaca – Soapstone & PCT Loop

Hike starts promptly at 8:45AM

Mission Valley carpool, if there is one, departs at 7:30AM

Today’s hike is 10 miles, all on trail.  We will start in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, cross into Cuyamaca Rancho State Park then cross back into ABDSP.  At Fages Monument, we will take the California Riding & Hiking Trail to the PCT and head south on the PCT back to our starting point, the Sunrise Trailhead.

Pack snack, lunch and water. Forecast is sunny and breezy, with a high near 66. This area can be quite windy so bring layered clothing.  Also, there is very little shade.

Directions (I-8 to Sunrise Hwy via Hwy 79): From I-8 East, take Highway 79 through Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and turn right onto the Sunrise Hwy.  After Mile Marker 34 (about 3.3 miles), the Sunrise Trailhead staging area will be on your right. There are toilets available.  Trailhead GPS: N32.97802, W116.52497

Road Work on Sunrise Hwy:  To avoid the road work delays on the Sunrise Hwy, the directions are through Cuyamaca Rancho State Park.  If you decide to drive north to the trailhead via Sunrise Hwy, then plan to leave earlier for expected delays.
